Financial markets are often marked by crises and alarming headlines, from global recessions to geopolitical shocks. Investors constantly face reasons to sell, reinforced by media warnings of bubbles and downturns. Yet history tells a different story: since 1928, the S&P 500 has delivered positive returns in 73% of years, with bull markets outlasting bear markets both in frequency and duration.

While downturns are sharp, noisy, and emotionally impactful, recoveries are slower and often overlooked — but they deliver the bulk of long-term gains. Even after major crashes, markets have demonstrated resilience, with average positive years returning +21% compared to –14% in negative ones.

The lesson is clear: successful investing is not about timing every high and low, but about time in the market. Crises will always exist, but companies adapt, economies evolve, and investors with a long-term horizon are rewarded. In the end, there are always reasons to sell — but many more reasons to stay invested.
